DON'T SAY
“I feel like I deserve a raise.”
SAY THIS
“Since my last review, I've taken on two accounts and grown revenue 18%. Let's discuss my pay.”
Evidence turns a feeling into a business case.

When to use it

Use it when you're ready to ask for more pay. Lead with what you've done since your last review, in concrete terms, then ask to discuss pay. Evidence moves the conversation from how you feel to what your work is worth. Use your own real results.

Example

You: “Since my last review, I've taken on two accounts and grown revenue on them. Let's discuss my pay.”

Manager: “Fair. Send me a summary and let's meet next week.”

In an email or Slack message

Send a short written summary before the meeting: three or four results with numbers, and the ask. It gives your manager what they need to make the case to their own boss.
