How to interrupt politely in a meeting

Short answer: say “I'd like to add one point.”

DON'T SAY
“Can I just jump in real quick?”
SAY THIS
“I'd like to add one point.”
Announcing your point claims the floor calmly, no permission needed.

When to use it

Use it when you have something relevant and there's a natural pause, or when the topic is about to move on without your input. You're not asking for permission; you're signaling that you're about to speak, which gives people a beat to make room.

Example

You: “I'd like to add one point before we move on. The vendor contract renews in June, so timing matters.”

Lead: “Good to know. Let's factor that in.”

In an email or Slack message

On a video call, use the raise-hand feature or type “I'd like to add one point when there's a moment” in chat. It gets you in the queue without talking over anyone.
